IMPULSE — Stop Habits
Last updated: April 16, 2026
Overview
IMPULSE ("the App") is a mobile application that helps users intercept impulsive behaviors through a four-step process: logging, breathing, AI-assisted reflection, and conscious decision-making. Your privacy is fundamental to our design — the App is built with a local-first architecture where your personal data stays on your device.
What Data We Collect
Data Stored Locally on Your Device
The following data is stored only on your device using local storage (AsyncStorage). We do not have access to this data, cannot read it, and do not transmit it to our servers:
- Habits you track (name, category, icon, start date, cost per day)
- Urge logs (timestamp, intensity, whether you resisted, optional trigger note)
- Morning and evening check-in data (mood, energy, body state, behavior outcome, social context)
- Workbook entries (triggers, if-then rules, AI-generated insights)
- App settings (language, pause duration, notification preferences)
- Anonymous device identifier (a random UUID generated on first launch, used only for rate limiting)
Data Transmitted to Third Parties
When you use the AI Coach feature (the conversational dialogue during an urge intercept or Deep Dive session), the text of your messages is transmitted through our secure proxy server to Anthropic (Claude) for processing. All AI-powered features — emotional dialogue, structured insight extraction from Deep Dive conversations, and correlation analysis — are handled by Claude.
What is sent: Only the text you type or dictate during the AI conversation, plus a system prompt that instructs the AI how to respond. No personal identifiers, device information, health data, or account information is included.
What is NOT sent: Your habit names, urge history, check-in data, workbook entries, notification preferences, or any other locally stored data.
Retention: We do not store your AI conversation messages on our proxy server. Messages are forwarded to Anthropic in real-time and discarded. Anthropic may retain data according to their own privacy policy:
Subscription and Payment Data
If you subscribe to IMPULSE Premium, payment processing is handled entirely by Apple (App Store) and RevenueCat (our subscription management provider):
- We do not collect or store credit card numbers, billing addresses, or payment details.
- RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID (your device identifier) to track subscription status. RevenueCat does not receive your name, email, or any personal information.
- RevenueCat Privacy Policy
What Data We Do NOT Collect
- No account system. IMPULSE does not require registration, email, password, or any personal identifying information.
- No analytics or tracking. We do not use analytics SDKs (no Firebase Analytics, no Mixpanel, no Amplitude, no Facebook SDK).
- No advertising. We do not show ads and do not share any data with advertising networks.
- No location data. We do not access or store your location.
- No contacts, photos, or files. We do not access your contacts, photo library, or file system.
- No health data integration. We do not connect to Apple Health, Google Fit, or any health data platform.
How We Protect Your Data
- Local-first storage. All habit data, check-ins, and workbook entries remain on your device. If you delete the app, this data is permanently deleted.
- Secure proxy. AI requests are routed through a Cloudflare Workers proxy that holds API keys server-side. Your device never has direct access to AI provider credentials.
- No server-side database. We do not operate a user database. There is no server storing your habits, urges, or personal reflections.
- Encrypted in transit. All network communication uses HTTPS/TLS encryption.
Notifications
IMPULSE sends local notifications (morning check-in reminders, evening reflections, mindfulness prompts). These are scheduled on your device and do not involve any server. You can disable all notifications in the App's Settings screen.
Children's Privacy
IMPULSE is not intended for children under 17. The App discusses topics including alcohol, nicotine, and impulse-driven behaviors that are not appropriate for minors. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Crisis Resources
IMPULSE includes crisis keyword detection. If you express thoughts of self-harm during an AI conversation, the App will immediately display professional crisis resources (988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) instead of continuing the AI dialogue. IMPULSE is not a substitute for professional mental health care.
Your Rights
Since we do not collect personal data on our servers, traditional data rights (access, deletion, portability) apply primarily to your on-device data:
- Delete your data: Uninstall the app. All local data is permanently removed.
- Export your data: This feature is planned for a future release.
- Opt out of AI: You can skip the AI dialogue step during any urge intercept by tapping "I'm ready to decide" at any point.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
